SP Energy Networks is proud to be a supporting partner of Community Energy Fortnight 2025.

Community energy is a vital part of the UK’s journey towards Clean Power by 2030. That’s why SP Energy Networks is working closely with local people and projects to help them connect to the electricity grid, access funding, and grow their impact. By supporting communities in this way, the company is helping build a greener and fairer energy future for everyone.

Liam Cantwell, Community Manager at SP Energy Networks, said:

“We believe communities have the power to drive real change. By investing in and educating people about community energy, we’re supporting innovation and creating real opportunities for local areas to benefit.”

Over the past two weeks, SP Energy Networks has been sharing a series of case studies to show how it’s helping community energy projects across its licence areas. These inspiring stories include:

  • Ashton Hayes, Cheshire: A village that cut carbon emissions by 23% through community-led behaviour change and renewable energy projects.

  • Ynni Ogwen, North Wales: A hydro scheme that uses profits to support green projects and help reduce fuel poverty in the local area.

  • Edinburgh Solar Co-op: A project that installed solar panels on public buildings, funded by community shares, with profits reinvested back into the community.
