Spring Series 2023 - Onshore Wind: From Idea to Reality

22/03/2023 12:00 - 14:00
Online

These lunchtime events will focus on renewable energy technologies that communities are using. The aim of this year’s Spring Series is to give our network the opportunity to connect, collaborate and find space to support each other.

The spaces will be focused on:

Event 1 (22 March): Onshore Wind: From Idea to Reality

Join us for a discussion on the potential for sector growth by harnessing onshore wind.

Community Energy England wants to work with members to realise the potential to scale the sector, deliver 34 times the community benefi t of commercial wind projects, give communiti es all over the country cheaper energy and a real stake in the evolving energy system.

"From idea to reality" is an online inquiry event, sponsored by Renantis (formerly Falck Renewaables), that seeks to help community energy practitioners in the process of developing onshore wind projects. This event will give them access to experts with first hand experience of developing new onshore wind projects and know what it takes to make their ideas a reality.

Speakers will include:

Dave Tudgey and Charles Gamble, Bristol Energy Network/ Ambition Community Energy whose 4.2MW turbine is in construction and will be generating my mid March. They achieved this at a time when onshore wind was effectively banned in England.

Erin Murchie, Community Relations Manager, Renantis

The event will cover:

  • Policy overview - what will be possible and what the hurdles might be. A quick look at what re-engaging in onshore wind might mean for scaling the sector.
  • Presentations from the experts on their experience, with tips and useful information, followed by Q&A
  • Discussion in groups on what you might need in the way of more information or support to move forward, which will be shared so that CEE can best facilitate progress. This event is for every aspiring community energy practitioner looking to move into the onshore wind space.

You can download the agenda for this event here

Renantis develops, designs, constructs and operates onshore wind farms, solar plants, floating offshore wind farms and energy storage facilities globally. Pioneering community engagement and ownership in renewable energy, Renantis has seven cooperatives and one community owned turbine at its onshore wind farms in the UK. Sharing the value of energy projects with the communities in which it operates is at the heart of Renantis’ values.
